Burnt Sienna

One day when I was laying down a wash of thinned burnt sienna when I knocked over the bottle of paint onto an old piece of canvas. Instead of cleaning it up right away, I just left it and kept working. When I finally got around to cleaning up the mess a couple of days later, I noticed how the paint had separated very subtly into thick and thin layers depending on the surface of the canvas. I found the natural patterns quite fascinating, but decided the effect was to subtle to make decent use of. I started mopping up the paint with an old pair of jeans and was instantly impressed by the striking contrasts and patterns created by removing the settled paint.
This started an exploration and development of what I had observed, along with a large series of paintings I have quite plainly called "Burnt Sienna"
